In India, the organized retail space development has witnessed a sea change in the last 15

years.Over these years, there has been a spur in the availability of Mall space in india. From just 3

Malls in 1999, the number increased to 172 operational Malls offering 52.2 million sq.ft. of Mall

space by 2010. There are around 255 operational malls in top 7 cities of India including Delhi,

Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad, In Delhi NCR, there are around 95

operational Malls out of which 12 Malls are successful.

Mall Management is a growing phenomenon in the Indian industry. The Indian retail market is

expected to continue its growth trajectory in coming years also. Mall management has been

identified as a critical factor for the success of malls and the retail industry across the world.

Mall Management Program broadly includes :

• Zoning-formulating the right tenant mix and its placement in a Mall

• Promotions and Marketing

• Facility Management – infrastructure, traffic and ambience management

• Finance Management.

Mall management encompasses operations, facilities management, security, accounts,

common area maintenance, marketing, leasing and all the other functions even remotely

related to a mall. The biggest problem in this industry is finding the right kind of tenants,

while leasing out space to tenants, it is important to keep in mind the image mat you want

to create in the customer's mind.

A shopping mall or shopping center can be described as a building or set of buildings that

contain retail units and a multiplex with interconnecting walkways enabling visitors to easily

walk from unit to unit, offering diverse brands and utilities at the same place. Recently,

Indian consumers are rapidly evolving and accepting modern formats overwhelmingly.

Retail space is no more a constraint for growth. India is on the radar of global retailers and
